First carrot, then stick: how the adaptive hybridization of incentives promotes cooperation - I seem to be able to follow that one without having to follow too much of the math.  It's interesting for it's conclusion and for the method of simulation, which employs a number of useful mechanisms that I would like to understand in minor detail.
